Events in Back to the Future: The Game unfold half a year after the events described in the third part of the movie "Back to the Future." Marty left all alone, without his best friend, Doc Brown. Then, from nowhere, suddenly there is a completely empty car De Lorean, who used characters in the film for time travel. It turns out that Doc again managed to get stuck either in the future, whether in the past.

The game takes place six months after the events of the film Back to the Future Part III and sees Marty McFly, the protagonist of the series, trying to adjust to a life without his best friend, scientist Doctor Emmett "Doc" Brown. As Doc left everything behind after leaving to an unknown time period, the bank has foreclosed on his home and sells off his property. Out of nowhere, an intact duplicate of the destroyed DeLorean time machine appears in outside of Doc's lab, part of the machine's emergency return protocols; Marty comes to learn this was an exact duplicate of the time machine created when the lightning storm struck it in 1955 (from the end of Back to the Future II).
